Grscica is a village with approximately 600 inhabitants, located on the southern side of the
island of Korcula, 14 km away from
Vela Luka and 7 km from
Blato. You can arrive to Grscica by and asphalt road which goes from the
city of Korcula to the seacoast and towards the west along the surrounding bays:
Medvidnjak,
Banja,
Vrbovicu and
Kneza where there are
beaches,
camps, and summer houses.
There were traces of Roman mosaics found in the nearby former fishing town of Kneza, and Roman constructions in Banja. At the end of this 12 kilometer long road in the secluded bay of
Racisce, a town established in the 17th century when refugees fled from the Turks in Herzegovina and the
Makarska seaboard. In history, the locals dealt with fishing, livestock, agriculture, and sailing. Today they are mostly sailors. The
Church of Our Lady was built in 1682 and there is a small loggia in front of it. The present day
parish church of St. Nicholas was built in the end of the 19th century.
The town has a restaurant and the closest market is in Prizba which is 2 kilometers away. In the vicinity of Grscica there are many beautiful bays, beaches, and islands which can be quickly reached by boat which can be rented. The locations for diving are especially attractive.
